Fly Fishing Fox Creek at Tallgrass Preserve

June 22, 2019

I finally made it out to the Tallgrass Preserve for the first time in 2019 this morning. The creek was extremely low all of 2018, but with all of our rain this year, I was hoping it made a comeback. There was plenty of evidence that it had been extremely high earlier this year, but the water levels looked to be back to a healthy level, and the water was flowing nicely. The action was not fast and furious, but I managed to catch quite a few ranging from about 1″ long to about 15″. Plenty of green sunfish, longear sunfish (what I grew up calling a pumpkin seed), bluegill, black bass, and one channel cat. The fly of choice today was a brown/orange Pat’s Rubber Legs.
